FAQs

I have no knowledge of the planning system or planning policy - is this OK?

1

Yes, that's exactly who we built this for. Objector identifies the relevant policies and explains them for you, and the policy advisor is there if you want to understand any of it in more depth. You don't need any planning background to submit a strong, policy-backed objection using the Objector platform.

Can I edit the letter before sending it?

2

Yes. You may not need to but the objection letter is yours to edit before you submit. You can choose which grounds to include, adjust the tone, shorten it and delete anything you don’t want to focus on. We also always recommend adding local insights that may help support the material planning considerations.

Do I need all six items?

3

No. Most people start with the report and the objection letter, since that's what actually gets submitted to the council. The councillor letter, video and committee speech are there as useful tools if you wish to rally support from the local community and/or councillors. The AI policy advisor is an incredibly useful tool to help you understand the key objections and related policies, but is of course optional to use.

What if my council does not have a planning committee stage?

4

Most applications are decided by a planning officer under delegated powers, without going to committee. If that's the case for yours, the committee speech simply won't be relevant; everything else in your toolkit still applies. If it does go to planning committee and you request a speaking slot, you will have a speech ready to go.
